We all know high performing teams when we see them in sporting events. Many of us belong to teams both inside and outside sports. In the business world, teams have become a ubiquitous part of the landscape as a major way to coordinate action in pursuit of results. However, according to recent global research, many who belong to company work teams-77%- believe they are part of a high performing team. The reality is that as few as 10% of teams can be called high performing when we look at the results they achieve. The harsher reality is that what many call teams are not teams at all but actually working groups. Clearly the potential for teams to generate high performance and great results has long been established. Understanding what makes for high performing teams and how to actualize their promise has not.
